RONALD GEERTS (1959) originally trained as a photographer, cinematographer and screenwriter and became passionate about theatre when studying literature at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel. He now teaches theatre and film courses at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel, a screenwriting seminar at the Universiteit Antwerpen and screenwriting history and theory at the Université Libre de Bruxelles. He also was guest lecturer in the drama and in the writing department of RITS, School of Arts and at the universities of Groningen and of Kent at Canterbury, among others. Ronald Geerts started as a researcher in a project at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel on political theatre in Flanders. Other projects investigated contemporary Flemish theatre in its international context, theatre as a means of empowerment (PhD-project), and how narrative strategies in theatre, film and television are used in the representation of reality. As a member of the Executive Council of the Screenwriting Research Network (SRN), he helped to promote the screenplay as an object of serious academic research.
